Childhood Obesity. Statistical Evaluation of the Prevalence in Ukraine: Regional Analysis

Abstract

The analysis of the prevalence and morbidity of obesity in children and adolescents in Ukraine for a period of 2010–2013 was conducted. Obesity reaches 17.2 % among endocrine diseases, which take 4th place in the structure of prevalence according to the disease classes for children and adolescents. Analysis of time series in terms of obesity prevalence in the pediatric age group showed that the indicator has positive dynamics and, according to constructed mathematical models, was prone to the relative increase in the nearest future. A mathematical model is characterized by a high rate of approximation (R2 = 0.9659), which determines the increase in the prevalence of obesity in children and adolescents till 2017. The following preventive measures should be considered as important ones: expertise of microenvironment (living conditions, kindergartens, schools); study of morbidity according to official statistics; medical examinations of the child population with an analysis of health (physical development, resistance, morbidity); selection of risk groups of developing pathology; organization of follow-up; introduction of modern medical technology.
